Emma Rafferty Returns to Lead Women’s Lacrosse to a Season-Opening Win
February 23, 2023
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The No. 13 ranked Pace University women’s lacrosse team won their season opener, 19-5, dismantling Molloy University on the road.
In her first game since May 3, 2021, graduate student Emma Rafferty did something she had never done before, setting a new career-high with six goals scored, putting every single one of her shots not only on-goal, but in the back of the cage, in a phenomenal return to the field for the Bay Shore native who was sidelined with an ACL injury last season.
The game was pretty much a blow out from the opening whistle, as the Setters were up 7-1 after the first quarter, and 11-4 at the half.
Nine different Pace players scored in the rout, with junior Angelina Porcello netting four goals, and graduate student Kayla Conway and sophomore Nikki Mottes each scoring a pair.
Three Pace goalies saw action, with Ashley Belfiore starting and picking up the win with four saves.
The Setters are off for over a week with a big test facing them next Saturday, March 4, in the form of a road tilt with the No. 1 ranked team in the country, the East Stroudsburg Warriors.
