PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The Pace University men’s lacrosse team dispatched Molloy University, 13-6, to win their season-opener and start 2023 at 1-0.

Sophomore Dan Zabbia scored a career-high six goals, one of six different Setters to find the back of the cage.

Senior Anthony Caputo netted a hat trick and assisted on another goal in a gutsy performance playing with a nicked left shoulder. Jake Veres, Marcus Ottaviano, Max Streety, and Devin Bell each scored one goal, while Veres also notched an assist.

The Lions tested and hung in there with the Setters in the first half, trailing only 6-4 at the break, but a 5-1 third quarter performance from Pace put the game out of Molloy’s reach heading into the final period, with the Blue & Gold scoring twice on man-up opportunities.

Streety was dominant in the draws, winning a career-most 16 of the 20 face-offs he competed in, setting the Pace offense up for success a multitude of times.

In a career filled with accomplishments, goalkeeper Louis Ragusa did something he had never done before, on top of picking up his 32nd win.

After saving a shot and chasing down a ground ball on a reset, Ragusa ran it out himself, well past the midline, and dotted a pass to Zabbia for the final score of the game and his first career assist in his 48th start.

Next up for the Setters is a two-game road trip to face Wilmington and Lynn universities before commencing conference play on March 15 at home against Saint Michael’s.
