The sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon sorority (DPhiE) and the brothers of Alpha Phi Delta (APD) fraternity hosted a dating gameshow called “Date A Deepher” last Friday night in Kessel’s Multi-Purpose Room to raise funds for their philanthropies.

Participants from DPhiE and APD were blind folded and had to choose one of three contestants to go on a mock date with based on the answers they gave too questions.

“Our contestants were randomly chosen, when people came we tried to ask them if they were interested, otherwise for the brothers and sisters we just asked [privately] who wanted to do it,” DPhiE sister and Coordinator of Cystic Fibrosis Alexis Neuville said.

People were asked about their ideal date, their best asset, what their dream guy or girl would be like, and what five words would describe them—both physical and personality traits.

Some of the answers to these questions were overlooking the New York City skyline, their legs, stature, being “lit,” and watching Netflix all day.

“It was a little nerve-wracking [to answer the questions], I’m not going to lie, but I felt a little more comfortable when I heard the answers of the other contestants,” contestant Joseph Lopergolo said.

Contestants who won dates were taken to the back of the room where they could have dinner with their new significant other.

Lopergolo enjoyed the event and won a date with DPhiE sister Nims Virani.

“I expected the event to be a lot of fun, because I’m friends with people who are in both organizations, and for the most part it really pulled through,” Lopergolo said. “It felt pretty good to win, I’m not going to lie.”

Neuville created this event, basing it off YouTube stars Shay Mitchell and Meghan Rienks’ “Get Roped In” dating show. She decided to cosponsor it with APD because they are considered the “brother” organization of DPhiE and they had not done any events together this semester.

Members of other Greek Life organizations showed their support for the event as well.

“We didn’t just have brothers [of APD] and sisters [of DePhiE], we had Tau Kappa Epsilon, Delta Kappa Epsilon, Alpha Chi Epsilon, and Pi Lambda Phi come out,” DePhiE sister Carolyn Hricilk said.

Neuville wished the turnout could have been better, but the event had competition with others going on at the same time.

“There’s a lot of different things going on tonight, which made it hard for people to come. Phi Sigma Sigma was doing a sisterhood event, Omega Phi Beta is also doing their banquet tonight, we really wish we could have all gone to that, but we sent a couple of sisters to the banquet in order to support them,” Neville said.

The event cost five dollars, and the money raised will be split equally between the Cystic Fibrosis foundation, which is DPhiE’s philanthropy, and the Wounded Warrior Project, APD’s philanthropy.
