Curious about what there is to do in and around Pleasantville during the spooky month of October? Don’t worry, there are plenty of places locally that are supposedly a great deal of fun.

Pleasantville displays beautiful scenery of foliage during the month of October and is great for apple and pumpkin picking. Not to mention just seeing the golden leaves fall around Pace’s campus is a sight to see. Closer to Halloween, haunted houses and magnificent pumpkin displays are always a must.

Around Pace’s campus, there are several orchards with all the fall necessities one could ever want. Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard in North Salem is the perfect place to go indulge in sweet treats and go on tractor hayrides. Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm located in Yorktown Heights is another option that has a corn maze and a bakery where they make fresh apple cider donuts. Wilkens is no more than twenty minutes away from Pace’s campus. Stuart’s Fruit Farm which is family-operated is more apple picking and pumpkin patch oriented. They are not far located in Granite Springs. If either of these places is too crowded, there are other options in Westchester County that are ideal.

In the Historic Hudson Valley which includes Westchester, the “Halloweentown” showcases many historical spooky events that many do not know about. The Historic Hudson Valley organization runs tours and events at five historic properties in Westchester County.

Sleepy Hollow, home of the Headless Horseman ‘Legend’ or “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” holds tours of the author Washington Irving’s cottage. The spooky tales are a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit and a special exhibit there tells all about how the Legend has lived in the imagination of popular culture over the centuries. There are other activities like scavenger hunts, photo ops, and historic games.

Sleepy Hollow also has a haunted walk about 35-minutes long where you get scared by an 18th-century village driven mad by the Headless Horseman. You walk through landmarks like the cemetery, church, and tavern.

One local favorite fall spectacles is The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze. Located in Van Cortlandt Manor, the 18th-century living history museum is home to many during this spectacular event that turns pumpkins into art. Thousands of volunteers and artists prepare for this event by carving intricate pumpkins and displaying them in ways one cannot fathom.

Or if you just want to see the views that the beautiful Hudson River Valley has to offer, you can go on a hike at Rockefeller State Park Reserve located in Pleasantville. Now is the time to see the foliage and enjoy, before the leaves fall.
