Pace Transportation implementing new shuttle services for students
Two new shuttle services are coming to campus March 3 and will remain throughout the duration of the spring semester. These services will include a stop in Thornwood and weekend trips to the NYC campus.
Carolina Salcedo, the new Director of Transport at Pace’s Pleasantville campus, and the Student Government Association (SGA) e-board, made this possible.
One of the new services, a shuttle from the Willcox bus stop to the shopping center in Thornwood, is not entirely new to campus. According to Salcedo, the service was piloted sometime last spring to see how or if it would be embraced or utilized by students.
According to Shawn Livingston, Director of Student Development and Campus Activities, the idea of a shuttle to Thornwood first came into discussion about two years ago, when a handful of students pitched the idea to the SGA e-board at the time. Their main point was that the ShopRite in Thornwood is generally less expensive for groceries than the Key Food in Pleasantville.
“Last spring, the service was only one day a week, on Thursdays,” senior SGA VP of Finance, Ciara Kain said. “[After the pilot, SGA] had a good amount of students request more money so the service could continue.”
Due to this request from students, when implemented next week, the shuttle will be running two days a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. According to Salcedo, only two days is what the transportation department is offering right now, but based on the number of passengers as well as the amount of feedback from students, this is subject to change. It can be other days (such as Mondays and Wednesdays, or Thursdays and Fridays, etc.), or, if it is really successful, depending on cost, the service could eventually be offered to students from Monday thru Friday.
This shuttle will make continuous loops from the Willcox bus stop to the shopping center starting at 4:30 p.m. and lasting until 8:45 p.m., with a 15-minute break, from 6:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
“I hope that this new shuttle will satisfy students’ needs, not only their shopping needs, but dining needs as well,” Salcedo said.
The other shuttle service that will be implemented is an expansion on one that is currently offered to students. The shuttle service from Pace Pleasantville to Pace NYC will run a lot more frequently between the two campuses, as well as on the weekends.
The first shuttle will leave Willcox Hall at 9 a.m., and the final one of the day will arrive at Willcox Hall at 6:45 p.m. Even though the schedule will change, students are still required to reserve their seat beforehand, since space will most likely still be limited. To reserve their seat, students can call the transportation department at 914-923-2695, or email them at [email protected].
