Pace University celebrated the new commuter lounge opening on September 12. The lounge is on the second floor of the Mortola Library. Now non-resident students are offered a space to relax between classes, study, and connect.
The Commuter Advisory Board (CAB) is a student-run organization that serves the community of commuters at the Pleasantville Campus and enhances their experience at Pace. Sussy Vizuet, the President of The Commuter Advisory Board was attending the lounge’s opening. She was present as well as students, faculty members, and University President Marvin Krislov.
“Over 80 students attended the 3-hour event, with staff and faculty also popping by to show their support.” President Krislov was excited to see the space and what we were able to make happen over the summer” said Vizuet about the attendance of the event.
Also at the event were raffles for attendees plus catering from Chartwells. Students were connecting with each other for the entirety of the event.
Vizuet continued: “We are committed to making this space what commuters are hoping for it to be, and we are planning to do this by assessing the commuter population through surveys to ensure their voices are being heard and applied to the work we do in the lounge this year.
On President Krislov attending she commented, “We were able to hear President Krislov speak about the lounge and thank us for our hard work on it, which was rewarding!”
The commuter lounge has a strong start for being a place specifically for commuters, where they may feel a home away from home. The Commuter Advisory Board has shown dedication to their purpose.
