Happening Today–As students head into the last few weeks of the semester, Mortola Library holds a Toast Day, where toast and various toppings will be served! This will be held on December 4th, 2024, from 9 am to 5 pm. Steven Feyl, Pace University Librarian, states that Toast Day allows students to “toast the end of the semester with toast.”
As students prepare for final exams and projects, they can get a moment to relax with some toast. Feyl states that Toast Day offers students “a fun and quirky space.” Toast Day also provides students with a sense of community. As students enjoy the various types of toast and toppings, students can also interact with each other and get to know each other better.
On Toast Day, the lobby of the Mortola Library will be decorated with toast-themed items. On one side of the lobby, students will find toasters along with different types of bread, such as lemon blueberry, pumpkin, strawberry, cinnamon raisin, and French toast. The library also offers students a gluten-free bread option.
On the other side of the lobby, students can put different kinds of toppings on their toast. Toppings include butter, peanut butter, Nutella, and cinnamon sugar. In the middle of the lobby, students will see a cardboard cutout of “Powdered Toast Man” from the 1990s Ren and Stimpy cartoon. Students can also view some “Powdered Toast Man” cartoon videos in the lobby.
The library has given previous Toast Day events a certain theme. For example, the theme for the first Toast Day event, which was held in 2016, was Toastmageddon. The library hung posters in the lobby with images that centered on the idea of the end of the world but with toast. Some of the images were from movies such as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Each image had a slice of toast in it.
Another theme for Toast Day is, well, International Toast Day! For this theme, the library offered students toppings from around the world, such as vegemite, which is a topping found in Australia, and dulce de leche, which is from South America. The library also offered students chocolate sprinkles, which is a topping for toast in the Netherlands.
