While the Setters previously scheduled game on Tue. was delayed due to rain, it was Concordia that got washed out at Finnerty field.
Pace rattled off win number six in a row after they beat the Clippers 9-2. The Setters remain undefeated when they bat in the bottom of inning number nine.
An onslaught of offense was the driving force for Pace in the win. In the Setters last six games they have put up five or more runs on four separate occasions. This game was no exception.
While the Clippers managed a home run against the Setters in the game’s early-goings, Pace clubbed Concordia for 12 hits on the afternoon and pushed home nine runs.
Pace ripped off four runs in the home half of the second thanks in part to a two run double by freshman nursing major Michael Viegas.
The Setters also got a two RBI single from junior business management major Jon Kovel to make the score 4-2 in favor of the home team.
After a lull in offense that lasted for four innings, the Setters bats roared back to life in inning number seven.
Junior education major James Pjura belted a single to left field that scored both Kovel and junior business major Chris Gili to give Pace a 7-2 lead.
Puja would cross the plate later in the inning on an RBI groundout by junior business major David Pepe.
The runs continued to cross the plate in the home half of inning number seven. Freshman psychology major Paul Iasiello got an RBI single that gave Pace their last run of the game.
On the mound, the Setters were dealing all day. Freshman criminal justice major Josh Garran surrendered just two runs in five innings of work.
The Old Tappan native relinquished two hits and two walks as he struck out five Clippers on the day.
Freshman journalism major Ryan Mihalkovitz and freshman business major Mike Sweeney combined to sure up the bullpen’s back end.
The two Setters combined to pitch four innings of scoreless baseball and struck out two batters between them.
With the win the Setters improve to 6-3 overall and have yet to play a game against a Northeast-10 school. Currently, the Setters sit in third place in the conference behind the University of New Haven and Southern Connecticut State University.
Pace will hit the road again to take on the Warriors of Nyack College with hopes of extending their winning streak.
