Pace Women’s Volleyball team crushed by Queens College
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. — Pace University lost its first home game of the 2022 season to Queens College in a 3-2 defeat this past Tuesday.
In a pre-game interview, Queens College’s Coach Stefan Leger said that “Pace is formidable, but Queens College has a strong team that he believes will get a 3-0 sweep with their exceptional blockers”. Pace University’s Coach Alayon-Wilkins said that she will “rely on the team’s camaraderie and unbreakable bond” to their advantage against Queens College.
In the first set, the Setters were under a heavy barrage of spikes and rebuffs from the Queens College Knights. Pace’s Number 19 Jada Screen kept the Knights on their toes, scoring the first point against the Knights, with Pace’s Number 9 Madisen Lupica closing the first set, Pace 22-25.
In the second set, the Setters were under a fury of kills by the Knights. Queens College’s Despina Boudouris ended the set with a kill, setting the score at Knights 25-21. By the third set, the matches were tied 1-1. The gym was in silence.
Suddenly, the buzzer sounded and the Setters jumped into action. Pace’s Number 9 Madisen Lupica drives the final kill into the Knights, ending the third set at Pace 25-14.
The crowd was electric, cheering for the Setters to hold onto their lead of 2-1. During the fourth set, the Setters had lost their steam. A service ace served by the Knights’ Despina Boudouris ended the set for the Knights 25-22. The matches were tied at 2-2.
In the end, the Knights slayed the Setters in the fifth set at Knights 15 – Setters 13 with the match score being 3-2. The Setter’s next volleyball game will be against Mercy College on September 17th at 11 A.M. at the Goldstein Fitness Center in Pleasantville, N.Y.
