Pace Football Outran By Assumption University
Pace Football fell at home versus Assumption University last Saturday. The Final score was 26-14.
The Setters came into the game following a big 27-7 win versus Southern Connecticut State University. The Greyhounds on the other hand was handed a hard loss by Merrimack College.
The game began would began with a show of defenses. Both teams forced a punt, Assumption getting 2. After Pace punted a 2nd time, The Greyhounds marched down the field via the run game accumulating 26 yards and getting 10 extra yards from an Unsportsmanlike Conduct on Pace. A pass from Assumption QB Jacob Cady to tight end Sean Leonard secured their first 6 points of the night and Nicholas Chodak kicked in the 7th.
Chodak would be up to score 3 more points for the Greyhounds just before the second half ended for a 10-0 lead.
Assumption would keep it going with an efficient 5 run, 2:40 drive, running all the way to the end zone. It was highlighted by two 20+ yard runs by running backs Rae Washington and Trey Howe, putting the Greyhounds up 17-0.
Pace would strike back in two straight drives. They benefited from a 15 yard facemask penalty and proceeded to get 38 yards by air and 13 by the ground, courtesy of quarterback Carlton Aiken and wide receivers Teddy Harper and Ramir Tann-Davis.
Following an Assumption punt, AIken did it all by himself with his feet. He rushed for 64 of the 65 yards to a second score. A extra point by Ben Franchino made it 17-14 in a matter of minutes.
Assumption would recover in the fourth quarter. Their defense would force the Pace offense into a safety. On the other end, they got 7 more following more running back rushing.
Assumption’s win opens up their NE-10 campaign to 1-0. Pace falls to 2-2 overallĀ and 1-1 in NE-10 match ups. This loss was also their first at Pace Stadium.
Pace is back at home on October 1st to welcome Post University to Pleasantville. Kickoff is at Noon.
