A little over a month later, we can now return to Goldstein Fitness Center to cheer on The Pace Setters. We rested and we celebrated the Holidays and the New Year. Our Athletes did the same, except some of them either stayed later at the end of the semester and others returned earlier than us to get back to competing. And compete they did. Here is a recap of late December and early-mid January in athletics.
Women’s Basketball; 8-8 record, 4-2 during the break
After a slow start to the season, Pace is hovering around .500 so far this year. The Setters’ final road game of the year was a 20-point win over the University of Bridgeport on December 18. Their last home game was a win, beating Felician University 79-61 on December 21st. This game also meant the return of their center Tower Lorde, to immediate effectiveness. Pace’s first games after the new year were both on the road and both were defeats. They got back on track in their first home game of the year downing Franklin Pierce on January 8th to a score of 51-44 The next road game was a win over Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire on January 11th. Pace Women’s Basketball will return to a full Goldstein Fitness Center vs Southern Connecticut State University on January 28th.
Men’s Basketball; 15-1, 4-1 during the break
Nationally ranked Pace Men’s basketball was on the road for their last game of 2024. The #11 Setters went downtown to Staten Island and left with a dominant 78-46 win over the College of Staten Island on December 18th. That win pushed Pace into the top 10 for the first time in school history, becoming #7 in all of Division II basketball. The NE-10 leaders went northeast to New Haven, Connecticut. There, the Setters got a dominant 91-58 win over Southern Connecticut State University on January 2nd. The perfect run came to an end the same week on January 5th when Southern New Hampshire University got a home win over Pace, surviving a furious comeback effort. MBB also defeated Franklin Pierce on January 8th, to get back on track and a doubleheader sweep. Back in New Hampshire, Pace pulled out a tough road win over Saint Anselm College on January 11th, securing another doubleheader in favor of the Setters. #11 Pace will also be back at home to a full crowd versus Southern Connecticut State University on January 28th.
Swim and Dive
Both Men’s and Women’s Swim and Dive had their senior night last Friday, January 17th. Two swimmers and 1 diver had their final home meet on the men’s side. For the women’s team, four swimmers said goodbye to the home crowd at the pool in the Goldstein Fitness Center. Paying a visit to Pace is Vassar College of Poughkeepsie, New York. The team will visit Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts on January 26th for their final regular season meet of the year. Then for the weekend of February 13-16, it is the NE-10 Championships.
