Well Summer is almost over and if you’re anything like I am you’ve spent countless hours in your car, or in a bar, listening to the same songs being played over and over again.

Despite my personal feelings that some of these songs are so played out that they aren’t enjoyable to listen to anymore, I must acknowledge the impact that they have had on listeners, so here are the top five songs that dominated the charts this summer.

1. ‘Closer’ by The Chainsmokers (featuring Halsey): As far as love songs go I really enjoy this one. The vocal skills are excellent in my opinion, the lyrics are relatable, and the music video is heartwarming and very scenic. The official music video has over 142 million views on YouTube.

2. ‘Heathens’ by Twenty One Pilots: This one surprised me. Being a fan of Twenty One Pilots, I was glad to see this song take off (even if it’s not my favorite song by the band) and transform them the from a lesser known niche group into a major player, even being played in movies like Suicide Squad. The official music video has over 170 million views on YouTube.

3. ‘Cold Water’ by Major Lazer and Justin Bieber: If you told me six years ago I’d have gotten to the point where I’d enjoy listening to Justin Bieber in college I wouldn’t have believed you, but recently I’ve really enjoyed his music (and this song in particular.)

The fact that he’s combining his excellent vocal talent with the beats of my favorite electronic music band (Major Lazer) in the background makes this my favorite song on the list. The official music video has over 173 million views on YouTube.

4. ‘Cheap Thrills’ by Sia (Featuring Sean Paul): This isn’t my favorite song, and I feel like it’s been overplayed, but admittedly the song is catchy and the choreography for the music video is impressive. The official music video has over 507 million views on YouTube.

5. ‘One Dance’ by Drake (featuring Wizkid and Kyla): Drizzy Drake has proven that he’s still on top of his game by producing the ultimate “let’s get drunk and grind on some bitches” song. Admittedly I have had fun with this song, using it for its intended purposes, but at this point, I feel like it’s gotten really played out. According to the ranking site, Official Charts, ‘One Dance’ was able to hold its number one spot for 15 weeks straight.
