Shows That Do Music Right

One of the best parts of music for me is how it’s incorporated into other forms of media. Music can be used to add emotion, suspense, or comedy to scenes that wouldn’t have been there without it. I have been introduced to a lot of my favorite music through the shows I watch. So without further ado here are the shows who do their music right (they also just so happen to be some of my favorites.)

1. Supernatural: In the 11 years I’ve been watching it, Supernatural has introduced me to many of the songs on my playlist. Every week the show has a little recap before the exact episode, and that’s where they put in most of their music. Here’s some of the music it has introduced me too: Bad Moon Rising by Clearance Clearwater, Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas, Highway to Hell by AC/DC, Eye of the Tiger by Survivor, Hot Blooded by Foreigner among many others. Now that it’s entering Season 12 I’m excited to see what else it helps me discover.

2. The Walking Dead: This one is appropriate considering it just came back on the air. Somehow it manages to find some of the best (in my opinion) unknown songs and make them blow up with the most popular show on television. Through The Walking Dead, I discovered songs like Arsonist’s Lullaby by Hozier, Wye Oak by Civilian, and Oats in the Water by Ben Howard. Since watching the show I have not heard a single song played on the radio, making me even more thankful to the show.

3. Breaking Bad: Like The Walking Dead manages to find some of the best unknown (or old) music and incorporate it into the show, and the songs that it uses seem to meld seamlessly into the scenes. TV on the Radio has become one of my favorite songs of all time and I have never heard it used anywhere else.
