No makeup… No problem! Why You Should Be Makeup Free in the Fall
Starting in the fall and going full force in the winter, it gets dry outside. Our skin is a reflection of the environment we live in. In the fall and winter your skin becomes dehydrated and dry because the temperature and humidity levels drop drastically.
Moisturizer should be your skins best friend during this time of year instead of makeup. I’m not saying to not wear makeup for half of the year! But, you should give your face two to three days a week without makeup in order to breathe and rejuvenate. It’s always important to do this, but especially during the dryer times. Invest in some tinted moisturizer if you still want a little color and apply it throughout the day (every few hours).
“In the winter months the low humidity dries out your skin and harsh soaps strip away your natural oils. As we get older, our ability to make more natural protective oils (sebum) declines. The combination of these things makes your skin dry and feel rough.” Dr. Arthur Perry told ShareCare.
If you don’t properly take care of your skin in the dry months, it’s going to show. When your face gets too dry, foundation won’t blend in with your skin. Instead, it’ll crumble and peel with your dry skin, leaving a flaky mess on your face. Powders also won’t blend or look smooth and they will add irritation to your skin.
On top of regularly using moisturizer, it’s important to drink lots of water. Your skin needs to stay hydrated. If you can’t ditch makeup all together, use the tinted moisturizer and put on some mascara. Like I said, just two to three times a week will be enough to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy. You only have one body, so do your best to take care of it. 🙂
