3 Foods That Help Dry Skin
This time of year is only the beginning of the dry weather that takes a toll on our skin. Beginning in the fall lasting through the end of winter and even spring for some people, our skin is dehydrated and dry. This gives our skin a dull and washed out look and causes irritation to sensitive areas such as your face and hands.
One thing you can do to naturally re-instill hydration to your skin is used these foods to help keep radiant skin even in the driest months…
- Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil is a natural ingredient that is extremely moisturizing, more so than any lotion or cream. It is also high in natural saturated fats. Saturated fats increase the healthy cholesterol (HDL) in your body, but also help convert the bad cholesterol (LDL) into good cholesterols. This helps promote heart health and lower the risk of heart disease. Rub a generous amount all over your skin before you go to bed at night. It is also popular to drink a teaspoon of it in the mornings. Heat it in the microwave for 10 seconds and drink a teaspoon to start your day.
2. Olive Oil
Olive oil is considered a healthy fat. It is filled with polyphenols, a plant compound with multiple antioxidant properties. This helps to prevent wrinkles and signs of aging. Olive oil has used an ingredient in face lotions and creams for this reason. You can always mix it in with your own face cream as you apply it each night.
3. Soy
Soy’s nutritional value is very high. It is a plant source of eight of the essential amino acids, making it the only complete non-animal protein. Whole soy foods are also an excellent source of fiber, B vitamins, calcium, and omega-3 fatty acids. Whether it is used topically in lotions or consumed it helps prevent collagen from breaking down and improves skin elasticity.
