On September 3rd, 2025, the Yarn Club hosted a “Learn to Sitch” event in the Kessel Student Center’s Multipurpose Room, where students had the chance to unleash their creative and technical skills by weaving yarn. At the event, participants were given the “Wooble” crocheting kit, which had a QR code for students to access instructions while they sat knitting and enjoying free pizza. It was a collaboration with Pi Lambda Phi, a fraternity on campus.
This crocheting activity allowed students not only to feel more relaxed, but also to build relationships with each other. According to the Yarn Club’s mission statement, “[by practicing] traditional arts and crafts, we are committed to bringing people together, decreasing student stress, increasing social connections, and promoting positive mental health.”
“Learn to Stitch” also gave students the opportunity to see what their peers were creating and offer collaboration if needed. In addition, Yarn Club officers were also available and went around each table to answer any further questions students had.
Lastly, the event taught students the difference between crocheting and knitting; crocheting is an art in which people create fabric by interlocking loops of yarn or thread with a crochet hook, while knitting involves manipulating yarn using two or more needles to create a fabric.
Other events held by the Yarn Club include “Stitch and Sprout” and “Trip to the Stitchery”, as well as activities that occur during the Holidays.
