Students had the opportunity to test their knowledge of Broadway shows at the Broadway Trivia event, held by Pace Media Zone this past week in front of the Center for Student Engagement. The event was tabled by Makayla Morris, President of the Pace Media Zone and a senior majoring in Digital Journalism, and Danielle Lugashi, Secretary of the club and a sophomore majoring in Digital Cinema & Filmmaking.
At the event, students threw an arrow at a dart board. The color on the dart board that the arrow fell on determined the question that the student was given. Such questions were, “Who played King George III in the musical, Hamilton?” and what is the setting for Phantom of the Opera?” Jonathan Groff played George III in Hamilton, and the setting for Phantom of the Opera is the Palais Garnier, an opera house located in Paris, France.
If the student answered the question correctly, they were given a selection of prizes to choose from. Such prizes included a vinyl record, a behind-the-scenes book for Wicked, a CD from the musical, Rent, and a sticker for the musical, Mamma Mia.
The event allowed students to get to know each other. Morris states, “The event helped to create a sense of community among students, as it allowed students to meet and talk to each other. Students got to talk to each other about interesting facts about Broadway musicals.”
In addition, the event helped students to learn more about Pace Media Zone and the events held by the club.
“Hosting events can interest students in becoming members of Pace Media Zone. Events can bring students with different interests and backgrounds together,” said Morris.
Pace Media Zone will host “Wicked Movie Night” on November 19th at 9:00pm in Pace Perk. The event will be held in preparation for Wicked Part 2: For Good. Students will have the chance to watch Wicked and win Raffle prizes.
In addition, Pace Media Zone hosts an Oscar Night event each year. For this event, students get to predict who the winners will be at the Oscars Awards Ceremony. At the event, students watch the awards ceremony to see whether their predictions were correct. If students guessed correctly, they win a Raffle prize.
The club also holds general meetings every two weeks. Morris states, “students can attend the meetings to learn more about events and suggest ideas for events. At the meetings, students can talk about topics in popular culture.”
