Welcome to University 201: a series where I’ll be interviewing a variety of upperclassmen to get their advice on how to make the most out of Pace University. For this first edition, I interviewed Isabelle (Rosie) Sass (She/They), a senior resident. Rosie majors in Biology and is minoring in Chemistry. She is President of Gamma Sigma Sigma and POWER, the Social Media Manager for NATURE, and the Student Assistant for oMA. Other club affiliations include PAW, ASU, Programming Board, Pi Lambda Phi, and Chroma.
Their favorite part about Pace is the number of opportunities to get involved on campus, “If anyone wants to make new friends or even get connections relating to their major, clubs provide that.” On the other hand, their least favorite part about Pace is registering for their next semester’s classes. She recalls, “Fighting for that one class you need can either be the easiest or the hardest thing you do.”
Out of all their years at Pace University, their favorite class was Molecular Biology. “It is taught by an amazing professor who lectures in a comprehensive yet digestible way,” they expressed. This professor is Professor Nancy Krucher. They believe that Professor Krucher made a potentially difficult class much easier and more appealing.
Rosie is a resident student and believes that fellow resident students should find a balance between on and off-campus activities. On campus, RAs create different events for their respective residence halls. Meanwhile, for off-campus activities, Pace offers a shuttle that goes into town, to the train station, and to the other Pace campuses.
Their go-to food choice on campus is a chipotle wrap from the deli station in Kessel. However, for a late-night option, they love to get the Mac and cheese bites from Pace Perk Cafe. Pace Perk Cafe is open late at night for the night owls looking for a midnight snack. The cafe is located in Martin Hall. For off-campus options, she loves going to the Black Cow and the Sundance Deli.
With midterms coming up for many classes, studying becomes a huge focal point in day-to-day life. Being a senior, Rosie has taken many midterms, finals, and other exams. While they personally use Cornell Notes, they think that the best way to find the best study method for you is to try a study method at least twice.
Their campus hack is going to events. There are plenty of events each week that offer different experiences and free things. “Most events will have free food if you’re running low on meal plan or raffles for fun things like Jellycats or even a Switch Lite!” she claims. The best place to find events and clubs is on SetterSync or the Corq app! She exclaims, “We all pay the student activity fee, so we should all make good use of the events planned for us!”
If Rosie was able to go back to tell her freshman self something, she would say, “talk to anyone and everyone! You never know the kind of opportunities you could miss out on by not meeting someone. Some of the people I met randomly have become my closest friends and even helped me find jobs!”
