The Executive Board of the Future Educators Association held a “Student Teaching Q&A” event in Butcher Suite this past week where they provided important information on student teaching to students in the School of Education.
At this event, goodie bags designed to look like composition notebooks were given to the students to stuff with various items such as straws, bookmarks, notebooks, pens, and stickers. Students were also treated to a variety of catering, including pasta, meatballs, garlic bread, corn chips, and cannoli chips, along with Hershey’s Kisses and lollipops.
As students enjoyed the food, they asked E-Board members about becoming a student teacher. The E-Board told students what they needed to know about creating lesson plans and taking teacher certification exams. Students were also given information about which districts they would be placed in for their student teaching positions.
The E-Board also shared with students about how to interact with their supervisors during their student teaching experiences. In addition, students were provided with information on how many days a week students would go to the school they were assigned to for their teaching positions.
Members also shared their experiences teaching classes, including what they learned from working with Elementary School and High School students. Karol Noguera, a senior in the five-year education program and president of the Future Educators Association, states, “I discovered how much I enjoy working students in the Fifth grade.”
Lastly, the E-Board got to talk about other favorable aspects of their teaching experiences. Some of the members discussed the connections they made with students. Other members talked about the joy they had watching their students learn the different subjects taught in their classes.
