UPDATE, 5:42 pm: This story was originally published at 3:22 pm with the second game yet to be determined. Adelphi University has defeated Le Moyne College 16-12. They will return to Pace Stadium on Sunday, May 14 to play the Setters.

Pace’s potent offense came alive and pushed them to the NCAA East Regional Final. A 9-goal 2nd quarter made the difference in eliminating The University of New Haven Chargers. The final score was 16-10.

The East Region is comprised entirely of NE-10 teams, meaning there is familiarity with all four squads. Pace previously defeated New Haven 20-10.

The first quarter was all Chargers as they opened the game with 4 goals. Their 4-goal lead came within the first eight minutes. Kayla Conway scored one to cut the lead to 3 at the 7:56 mark, finally getting the Setters on the board. The goal would be considered calm before the storm. Neither team scored for the final nearly 8 minutes of the quarter. New Haven would not score at all in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Pace had 5 scorers for 9 in the back of the net.

Midfielder Angelina Porcello got two straight in to cut the lead to one then tie the game. Aleya Corretjer got four goals within the quarter. Her first goal of the game took the lead, her second, third, and fourth coming right after each other  Sophmore Nikki Mottes got a goal of her own. At halftime it was 10-4 Setters.

The third was closer in terms of offense. New Haven was able to get three goals. The lead would not waver for Pace, however, as they got 5 of their own. Emma Rafferty completed her hat trick with two goals, the 11th and 14th for Pace. The lead was 8 for the Setters, too much for the Chargers to overcome.

Pace now awaits the winner of Le Moyne vs Adelphi. They will host at 12:00 pm on Sunday in the East Regional Final. The winner goes to the National Semifinals on May 19 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
