College is a time of impulse decisions for certain students. Though many days are routine by going to class, the cafeteria, the library, then home, sometimes students choose to take an adventure or decide to do something uncalled for–like get a tattoo or piercing.

Around the area, tattoo shops and piercing places are available for venturing students. One of these locations is Thicker Than Blood in White Plains.

“It was a great experience. They were all really nice and it was a great environment.” sophomore Marisa Ruland said after getting her nose pierced.

Thicker Than Blood is located on Post Road in White Plains. With availability from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm on all days but Sundays, when it is open 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm, the shop is open for anyone to walk in to get a piercing or to set an appointment for a tattoo.

For piercings, after signing a consent form, one is allowed to pierce anything from an earlobe to nose to eyebrow. For tattoos, the shop specializes in only personalized tattoos. They also focus on biosecurity, procedures to protect people from diseases, since their customers’ health is their main concern.

Because tattoos and piercings can vary from person to person, it is always best to check other shops for work quality along with prices.

However, Marisa felt the staff was welcoming to her and precautious of her health. Before and after getting her piercing, she was told what to do while being pierced and how to take care of it.
